Vivek High School Model United Nations 2020

Vivek High School organised its Sixth Edition of International Model United Nations Conference from 14 to 16 August 2020. Owing to the extraordinary circumstances our world faces today, this year’s conference took place virtually.

The maiden virtual edition of VHSMUN witnessed the participation of over 250 delegates from 24 schools that were spread across India and abroad, including schools from Canada and Dubai. This year’s conference captured the quintessence of the tempestuous occasions the world is wrestling with, and disclosed the multifaceted injustices engraved in our society, subsequently embodying the theme of the conference “NOSCE TE IPSUM – Revelations through Reflections.”

Mr. Manish Tiwari, Member of Parliament, was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony which held on 14 August 2020 and was inaugurated by seeking blessings from Lord Vishnu through a graceful Vishnu Vandana. He addressed the audience and interacted with the young minds. At the end of the ceremony, Adhiraj Ahuja, Secretary-General of VHSMUN20, declared the conference open.

This year’s conference included 8 committees, namely, United Nations Security Council ,United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees, Communist International, Organization Of Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC+), United States Senate Committee On The Judiciary, Israel War Cabinet, Indian Stakeholder’s Meet and United Nations Commission On Status Of Women (beginners’ committee, initiative by our school for Grade 7 and 8).

These committees witnessed a regressive debate in 7 sessions over 2 days on various agendas like, Technical Assistance and Capacity Building in the field of Human Rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional and Sub- Regional Bodies in maintaining International Peace and Security, Countering Major Adverse Impact on Global Economic and Oil Demand, Discussing International Labor Rights and the future of Labor Unions and Forecasts in 2020, Simulating the Six Day War, Tackling Gender Inequality in Politics with special emphasis on Unequal Representation of Women in the Government etc.

Admiral Sunil Lanba, Former Chief of Naval Staff, was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony. He addressed the delegates and faculty advisors and expressed his concern regarding the change in the world in terms of population, climate and environment and his belief that the dreams, hopes and passions of the youth should be encouraged as they yearn to achieve something great in life which can further create an improvement in the condition of the world. Later, Executive Board announced different awards for their committees.

Our worthy Principal, Mrs. Renu Puri, announced the Best School Delegation award which was bagged by Modern School, Barakhamba.
