VHS Punjabi Fiesta – Viraast-E- Punjab

VHS proudly hosted its first-ever Punjabi Fiesta, Viraast-E- Punjab, marking the debut participation of the Punjabi Department in the school fiesta. This vibrant celebration was a tribute to Punjab’s rich heritage and a meaningful effort to showcase its unique sabhiyachar (culture) through a variety of engaging activities.

The event was thoughtfully organized over two days, each highlighting different aspects of Punjabi tradition and expression.

Day 1 commenced with a Kavi Darbar (poetry symposium) and a Fancy-Dress competition. In the Kavi Darbar, students beautifully expressed their thoughts and emotions through Punjabi poetry, reflecting creativity and cultural depth. The Fancy Dress segment brought Punjab’s history and traditions to life, as students dressed as iconic personalities and cultural figures. Some portrayed legendary figures like Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Rani Jind Kaur, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, while one student came dressed as a newlywed Punjabi bride. Another highlighted the spirit of Punjab by representing a Punjabi farmer (kissan). Each participant captured the essence and fragrance of Punjab’s soil with remarkable authenticity and enthusiasm.

Day 2 began with one of the most significant symbols of Punjabi identity — Dastaar Bandi (Turban Tying). Students not only demonstrated the art of tying a turban but also shared its cultural and spiritual importance. The activity concluded with a meaningful message: the dastaar is not just an attire but a symbol of honour, dignity, and pride that must always be respected.

A Storytelling Competition was also conducted for Classes 5 and 6, where young students impressed everyone with their confidence and creativity. Using props and expressive narration, they conveyed thoughtful messages about society, reflecting both innocence and awareness.

The grand finale of the fiesta was the Punjabi Mela, where students showcased various elements of Punjabi culture. Traditional items such as the charkha, manja, phulkari, and madhaniya were displayed, creating an immersive cultural experience for everyone present.

The event concluded on a high note, receiving immense appreciation from the judges for its organization, creativity, and cultural richness. Viraast-E- Punjab was not just an event but a memorable journey into the heart of Punjab’s traditions, leaving everyone with a deeper sense of pride and connection to their roots.
