A healthy environment benefit all of us. For the sustainability of our planet, one needs to carry out responsibilities towards Mother Nature as a global citizen, to protect our planet from deterioration and to handover clean and green planet to our future generations.
Five students from class 6 namely Aarnav Kapoor, Ananya Noorie Bafna, Dhanvin Mittal, Imaad Mohan Puri and Paakhi Chawla along with the teacher delegate Ms Bindiya Khanna attended Round Square Virtual Conference hosted by Newcastle Grammar School in Australia on the theme of “Our Environment: A Responsible Legacy” on 8th June 2022. The virtual conference aimed at building students’ commitment and ambition to act in ways that leave a positive environmental legacy for the future.
As a preconference task the delegation researched on the most important environmental initiative local to them, which has a connection to global challenges, and then create a collage of images that represent these initiatives and challenges.
The Conference featured as its Keynote Speaker, Cherry Sung a youth environmental activist from South Korea and a student at Chadwick International School. She exemplified how we can take action to save the environment and be a ‘Changemaker’. For this, one can use Eco alternatives, raise awareness, innovate, educate people and celebrate environment days.
During the Baraza breakouts each member of the delegation discussed their collage. Our student delegate discussed the challenge of deterioration of soil quality over the years due to conventional farming practices with the overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. They highlighted the initiative to start ‘Chandigarh Organic Farmer’s market’ by a group of pioneering organic farmers from Chandigarh, Punjab & Haryana which was aimed to provide a platform for organic farmers and consumers to return back to the soil, pave a way for change which is sustainable for us and the earth.
The delegates were encouraged to think about how as an individual they can make an impact in their school, or at home or neighbourhood and save our environment.
The students realised that may be our single efforts may seem small but if thousands of youths can unite together towards nature conservation, then one day our efforts will be a drastic step to protect our motherland Earth from destruction.
