VISIT TO THE MUSEUM OF TREES

The Eco Club students visited the Museum of Trees on 24 December 2025, accompanied by Ms Bindiya Khanna and Ms Vanshika Bhardwaj where they learned about the deep connection between nature and spiritual traditions in India. They were introduced to the unique Sikh practice of naming places of worship after tree species, such as the Dukh Bhanjani Beri of the Golden Temple, the Tahli tree of Gurudwara Tahli Sahib, Munak Kalan(Hoshiarpur), and the Ber tree at Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s house in Faisalabad, Pakistan, among many others. The students also learned about the use of clonal technology to conserve sacred trees associated with Sikh gurudwaras. Over the past decade, ten of the most sacred trees of Sikhism have been successfully cloned and are flourishing at the Museum of Trees. Mr Damanbir Singh Jaspal, creator and curator of the Museum, presented his book Tryst with Trees – Punjab’s Sacred Heritage to the school. In addition, the students participated in canvas art activities using tree leaves. Students from Vivek High School joined Ms Alba Smeriglio, Deputy High Commissioner of the UK to India, during the visit and actively participated in tree plantation and nature-basedm activities, making the experience both meaningful and educational while reinforcing the importance of engaging young minds in sustainability.
