The conference started with students sharing their pre-worked single slide focusing on the theme of democracy and people’s voices. One participant per school spoke for no more than a minute about their school’s visual. Post the presentation, the first guest speaker Ms Ophelia Corliss, an activist for access to education, emphasized upon how difficult it is for children from remote tribal areas to receive an education. This was followed by a Baraza session in which the delegates shared their opinions on access to education in our communities. The second keynote speaker, Ms Antoinette Quarshie, shared her story highlighting upon providing quality education to girls and how our surroundings shape who we are as a person having a mind of our own. The conference concluded with a discussion on how democracy is perceived and seen in our school.
It was indeed a golden opportunity and a worthwhile learning experience for the ‘VHS Team’.
