Two students of Vivek High School, Shravin Mittal (Class 11 A) and Gurmehar Singh Sidhu (Class 10IG), under the mentorship of Ms. Bindiya Khanna, participated in the Young Earth Challenge as part of the National Climate Innovation Challenge 2026, held at IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal on 5 June 2026 to mark World Environment Day.
Organised by the School of Water Resources (SoWR), IIT Kharagpur, the Challenge is a flagship national initiative that promotes climate action, resilience, and sustainable innovation. It brought together school and college students, researchers, and innovators from across India to present creative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
The Vivek High School team was among only 17 teams selected from over 38 schools nationwide to present their project at IIT Kharagpur. The students gained valuable exposure by interacting with participants from different states and learning from eminent academicians and industry experts, including Padma Shri Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ray, Former Director, IIEST Shibpur (Guest of Honour), and Prof. Arvind Kumar Nema, Deputy Director, IIT Delhi (Chief Guest).
Their project, “Resilient Moss Network: A Nature-Based Bio-filter and Thermal Shield for Urban Heat Island Mitigation,” showcased an innovative and cost-effective approach to improving urban air quality, reducing heat, and supporting carbon neutrality through nature-based solutions.
The event provided an enriching learning experience, inspiring the students to continue exploring innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
