Brewing Ideas, Building Connections: The Cambridge Subject Café Experience

The Cambridge Subject Café Workshop, held on 7th November 2025 at Dass & Brown Experiential Learning School (DBELS), Panchkula, was a day dedicated to professional dialogue, collaboration, and continuous learning. Organised for the Cambridge Upper North Region, the workshop brought together educators from various schools affiliated with Cambridge Assessment International Education to exchange ideas, share classroom practices, and strengthen connections within the learning community.

Representing Vivek High School, Ms Sumanjeet, Ms Gunchan, Ms Mamta, Ms Deepika, Ms Charu, Ms Reenu and Ms Eknoor participated with great enthusiasm and an openness to learn, reflect, and grow. The event provided them with a platform to explore innovative approaches and gain deeper insights into effective teaching and learning strategies.

The day began with a warm welcome by the host school team and the Cambridge representative, setting a tone of warmth, purpose, and shared commitment to growth. The gathering buzzed with energy and anticipation as educators from the region came together, united by a common goal to learn from one another and contribute meaningfully to the Cambridge community.

The workshop unfolded through engaging Subject Café sessions focused on Global Perspectives, English First Language, Mathematics, Sciences, and Computing & Computer Science. Each subject group turned into a lively hub of discussion where teachers shared experiences from their own classrooms, discussed challenges, and explored ways to make teaching more dynamic, inclusive, and learner centered.

The Global Perspectives session encouraged participants to think about how to help students become reflective, independent thinkers who can understand and appreciate diverse viewpoints. In English First Language, discussions revolved around enhancing communication skills, critical analysis, and nurturing creativity through reading and writing. Mathematics educators reflected on ways to make conceptual learning stronger, emphasizing reasoning and problem solving over rote understanding. The Sciences session explored practical ways to integrate inquiry based learning and experimentation in everyday lessons. Meanwhile, Computing and Computer Science sessions highlighted the importance of digital literacy, coding, and equipping students with future ready skills.

Each discussion inspired educators to think beyond their subject boundaries, about how to connect classroom learning with real world contexts and how to nurture the Cambridge learner attributes of confidence, responsibility, reflection, innovation, and engagement.

What made the day truly special was not just the exchange of ideas, but the spirit of camaraderie and openness that filled every conversation. Teachers listened, questioned, and supported each other, proving once again that professional growth flourishes in spaces where collaboration and respect form the foundation.

As the sessions drew to a close, participants reflected on their learning and shared key takeaways, carrying with them fresh perspectives and renewed motivation. The workshop concluded on a note of gratitude and inspiration, reminding everyone that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge, it is about growing continuously, both as educators and as learners.

It was a day that celebrated learning in its truest form, dynamic, reflective, and shared. The Cambridge Subject Café Workshop reaffirmed the belief that when passionate educators come together with open hearts and curious minds, learning knows no boundaries.
