THEME – “Urban Design: The Impact of increased Urbanization on the local community”
Appleby College hosted an RS Zoom Postcard on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, with the theme “Urban Design: The Impact of Increased Urbanization on the Local Community.” This postcard was open to students aged 13-15 years.
The VHS delegates were:

- Sahej Bhatia- 9-IG

This Zoom postcard brought together around 85 participants from 14 schools in 6 countries (Argentina, Colombia, India, Pakistan, Perú, and the USA). As pre-work, the hosts asked participants to watch the following Ted Talk: Urbanization and the future of cities – Vance Kite, and later share 2 examples of the ‘Impact of Urbanization’ on their local community in the breakout room discussions.
Student Reflections:
- Srishti: Gained a new perspective on urban design as a tool for development and sustainability; found the experience introspective and inspiring.
- Amber: Appreciated learning about city growth and hearing global perspectives; grateful for the opportunity.
- Rishit: Discussed Chandigarh’s green infrastructure and stressed individual responsibility for sustainable urbanization.
- Sahej: Enjoyed exchanging innovative ideas like rooftop gardens and smart transport solutions; valued the global dialogue.
- Sharanya- It was a great experience, offering open discussions and valuable insights into global perspectives. I look forward to more such opportunities.
- Aisha- It was a memorable and enjoyable first experience, though I felt there could have been more interactivity and time for discussion. Overall, it was a great and interesting event.
It was indeed a golden opportunity and a worthwhile learning experience for the ‘VHS Team’.
