The Legal Studies Department, hosted a Moot Court for the students of class 12 on the 1st of May, 2023. The students were divided into two teams of three and were asked to prepare a memorial from the ‘plaintiff’ and the ‘defendant’ side. The memorial crafted by the students were parallel to one’s presented in other professional competitions. The case was regarding the Indian Contract Act, 1872. The case helped the students to understand basic legal logistics, legal critical thinking, drafting of documents, analysis of information, research on cases and also elocution skills. The quality of debate during the competition was very high. The plaintiffs presented arguments interpreting Section 8, 4, 5, 10, 2(b) and using doctrines such as Doctrine of Promissory Estoppel and Consensus Ad Idem. The defendants pleaded their case stating that there was no existence of a contract. This whole experience has left the students with a direct confrontation with law, applying it to the real world and presenting it formally.
